BURNAND
This private castle, situated in the centre of the village, near a little Romanesque church,is remarkable for its multi-coloured tiled roof,is the result and is the result of many transformations made by the family of Bernard de LAVERNETTE at the end of the XIX th century. Until 1525,nothing is known about the history of Burnand; that year P.CAJOT,who was part of a family of soldiers, became a local lord.
In 1645,Charlotte de Brie gave the castle to the Augustins, who established a priory,in which only four or five clergymen lived in.

From 1819,the castle was the property of the Vanrisamburgh family. One of the sons of this family became member of the village council of St Gengoux in 1852 and mayor in 1855.
In 1860,the castle became the property of the de Lavernette family.
At the beginning of the 1960's,a Dutch group bought the castle, one of the owners is the famous painter Nico Vrielink |
CORMATIN
The castle houses the most sumptuous Louis XIII apartments still conserved in France (1628), with wood-panelling,chimneys and ceilings richly sculpted and guilded,a vast stoned staircase and a picturesque kitchen.
Around the castle, a park/garden extends over 12 acres, with flowerbeds,a huge box hedge maze, an old-fashioned potager and a theatre.
For the French poet Lamartine, Cormatin was “an appealing place for art and delights.”

SIGY LE CHATEL
The ruins of the feudal castle dominates the village. This building belonged in 1626 to Archambaud de Charnay. In 1560,it was in the hands of Philibert de la Guiche, who gave it as a dowry for his daughter's wedding to Emmanuel de Valois, son of Charles de Valois, duke of Angouleme.
From this time on,the stronghold seems to have been abandoned. By inheritance, it became the property of the De la Guiche family again.
